The Council of Leftard Canadians

As the year comes to a close and my work schedule becomes increasingly weather dependent I plan on a greater blogging presence. That said, this nugget I ran across from the Halifax Chronicle Herald has prompted me to post .

The tasty bits:

The Council of Canadians, founded by well-known nationalists such as Maude Barlow and Margaret Atwood, wants to stop the military from recruiting at high schools across the country.

A resolution was passed at the group's annual general meeting Oct. 29 after a young member of the Ontario chapter objected to recruitment visits at his high school.

Cliff White, spokesman for the council in the Atlantic region, said the move is partly in response to Canada's current mission.

Well known nationalists? Don't you really mean well known radical, leftist, pacifist, feminist, agitators? Or does espousing all things leftard automatically qualify one as a nationalist? Hell if that were the case Gilles Duceppe qualifies as a nationalist. But that's not the real point.

The money quote is here:

"The fact that we've moved from peacekeeping to war fighting ... the traditional role of the military has changed."

Cliff are you serious? Tradition only goes as far back as what? Trudeau? Pearson? And speaking of Pearson, our involvement in Afstan is under the auspices of the U.N. Do you have any idea what I'm hinting at? Or do you prefer U.N. mandates of the Somalia variety?

Idiot.
